Why do they wrap bacon around filet mignon?

    To gently baste in added fat while cooking which helps it stay moist. It helps retain the shape and it imparts a bit of smoky flavor to it, too. Makes it excellent:-)

    Um, aren't those mock filet mignon with the bacon? I've never gotten one in a restaurant with bacon, or from a butcher shop. I've only seen them like that in plastic at the grocery store for $2 each. I've tried those and they were pretty nasty.
