A 'day shape' is an object or flag/s that indicate what a vessel is about to do or to relay a message. for example, A lightvessel, when out of position, will show two black balls, one forward and one aft and hoist the international code flags L-O. Also when divers are down below, their tender must fly the flags N over C.
