  • You can get seriously sick from lack of sleep starting around 5 days and the record was 8 days done on a radio program (He did have the help of drugs to keep him awake, too) but the Guinness book of world records won't accept it because they say it is too dangerous. Scientists say that at around 10-11 days and you would be dead. I have stayed awake almost 36 hours, especially when doing volunteer work for Relay for Life and stayed up with my husband doing massage on the participants. It's a tough day.
  • i stayed up for 4 days straight before i really started to lose it, once. i started to feel like i was constantly on the edge of throwing up. after a while i didn't want to sleep, but i was physically and mentally exhausted. when i finally went to sleep i slept for pretty much 24 hours. felt bad for a few days after that, too.
  • I've heard tell no one has ever died from insomnia, however, chances are good you'll get a bit psychotic and it won't much matter if you're dead or alive... Good luck with that. Please eat every so often and stay hydrated. It helps! I was up (and working...) for almost 4 days. Not good. Won't do that again!! :)
  • I stayed up 5 days in a row (and I know it sounds like bogus cause it's a common number but really, no joke) and I felt lightheaded every ten minutes. I remember playing Guitar Hero while on this streak and I woke up about a day and a half later, on the ground, still in the chair, but I fell over and I was still hugging the controller! 100% serious!
  • 21 days
  • With total lack of sleep you would last a month or so before your higher functions shut down. From there you would slip into a coma and die. People who claim to have lasted years with no sleep have in fact been found in lab conditions to be experiencing 'microsleep'. There's a new novel just out which is centred on this called 'The Sleepwalker's Introduction to Flight.' If you're interested. You can find it on the Amazons or check out www.clavadistaloco.com
  • About 5 to 6 days. I was in labor. (Boy a lot of these questions lately are bringing me back to when I was in labor for my kids.) My body reacts to the first stage of labor as if it was the last stage. The hospital even gave me something to try to sleep and it didn't help. I ended up passing out between contractions.
  • yayy im currently on 50 hours....and im not tired and i cant sleep its driving me nuts....did just break up with the girlfriend lol
  • I believe the record is something like four days. During war, Soldiers go for an average of three to four days at a time without sleep. It's a major contributor to their mental destabilization noted after their return home.
  • ive done only 39 hours before i gave in. after a while, i wasnt even tired. i was just awake, and my normal, cheerful self. But i understand the trauma no sleep can do on a body, and i didnt want to harm myself so i went to sleep. haha, i slept for a good 9 hours and woke up at 4pm. that messed with me too
  • It readily depends on the condition of your body, I have been searching for the answer to that question as well, I went through a very traumatic experience and since then Its normal for me to go 3-5 days without sleep. I try to drug myself at day 5 because my mind starts to snap and reality itself becomes painful to experience. the longest I have ever went was 7 1/2 -8 days without sleep, completely sober, no drugs. I started getting bad panic attacks, and my chest started to hurt and my mind felt like it was melting. If I didn't drug myself I'm not sure I could have physically been able to survive much longer.
  • Thai Ngoc has stayed awake for over 30 years now and is still in good health. http://www.thanhniennews.com/features/?catid=10&newsid=12673 More and more research is proving that sleep is less useful then previously thought.
  • i stayed up for 3 days and just crashed (a lot of redbull)
