  • Depends on the person and the day. Generally here, it's a quick smile. Seattle isn't an openly outgoing city.
  • They will smile back and say hello, at least.
  • People tend to think you're weird for smiling or saying 'hi' to them here. I'm in L.A., out in "The Valley."
  • I live in a small little town where everyone knows everyone, so yes, they will smile back! But, if you drive 15 - 20 minutes away to where we have to go grocery shopping, nobody is really all that nice. They are rich snobs to me, and I don't understand why people who make a little more money are so rude!
  • That depends on the person. Generally you'll get a smile back although if you smile at some you're liable to get stabbed or at very least verbally abused.
  • I am fortunate enough to live in the country, about 10 miles out of town. What is really strange, but cool, is, anytime you are driving out in the country, when you see people, they wave. (well, older people, anyway. Sadly, not so much anymore, with younger people) It just tickles the heck out of me, how it seems to be like an unwritten law, or understanding, that out in the country, we are still friendly to one another. BTW, PLEASE< PLEASE< EVERYONE, always smile at old people. It really can make their day. And they are often afraid of young people, so be kind and make them know you care or at least are no threat. They are so often, soo lonely.
  • where i live you have to be careful who it is. there are a lot od idiots and your more likely to get a "what you looking at" thrown at you if you smile at them. ive just been on a walk with my dogs and ive smiled at people and they smiled back but they where other dog walkers and people sat in their gardens.
  • people always return the smile. and I like it.
  • Seriously this place is not known as smile city. I have lived here for many years and it seems to be an effort for even friends to smle at other whilst up the street. So miserable - i'd much rather sit by my duck pond and think of my lovely friends sharing smiles with me on ab.
  • With me, People will think OMFG!!! SHES ACTUALLY SMILING!!! TAKE A PICTURE because i never smile but with eberyone else its OK plus a lot of us know each other I know about 20,000 people out of 38,000 people in the city i go to school in
  • smile back arizona people are friendly or at least in phoenix they are
  • Mostly they think i am weird unless they are worse than me! :)
  • Where I live everyone smiles at everyone else. If you don't they think you are rude.
  • Most would smile...I think... I know that in florece where my father lives people smiled at you all the time and would say hi...
  • I live in rural Texas and it is very common-place for people to smile and wave at one another. I would not like to live somewhere that this is not the norm.
  • In my neighborhood, they usually smile back and return a wave. I am in a multiracial neighborhood (predominantly Black) so nobody seems to mind the lone Gypsy.
  • Pretty friendly folks here so yes if I smile they will smile back. Over on the eastern shore (Maryland) about 20 minutes away from where I live they are even more friendlier. They smile and wave:)
  • People smile back most of the times.
  • Where I live people will smile back. Everytime I'm out driving I get waved to at least once. In our town you even wave to people that you don't know. And when you go into the grocery store you know practically everyone in there and have to talk to everyone before leaving.
  • It's about 50/50. The locals always smile. Those who moved out to the country from the city think I'm weird.
  • they will smile back.
  • They'd think I'm weird, and would either call the cops or beat me with their purse.....it might just be my horrible smile though. Frightening...
  • A smile, a nod, a wave, or even a "Good day"; I find these are quite common in the country, but not quite so much in the city. I believe it is probably because people feel more close-knit in a small community.
  • Definitely smile back. Even if they don't know you. That's just what we do here in the South. We're friendly folk;)
  • Most here would return the smile.
