You're reading What's the range of the de Havilland Tiger Moth airplane?

When did you fly this aircraft? Did you own one?

No, I don't own one, but about 20 miles north of me there is a small grass strip airport that has one. The family that owns the airport has been long time friends of mine and allowed me to fly the tiger moth on a few trips. It's not one of their rentable aircraft. I would certainly love to own one though, it's a great little plane to fly.

Before I was licensed, my Dad (a USAF pilot) took me for a ride in one. It was fantastic! I took my PPL in an Aeronca Champion Citabria and learned to love a taildragger. Dad had a Pitts Special S-2B that I also flew quite often before I moved on to larger 'more practical' aircraft. LOL

Most of my flight training was in the Cessna 150 and the skyhawk. I did my IFR rating in a piper arrow. My multi-engine was a beechcraft duchess. As you see, I didn't get to fly any taildraggers during training, which would have been nice. Now I'm flying CRJs for Pinnacle (operating as NWA Airlink). Do you fly commercial as well?

I don't really consider that I've done any "commercial flying" per se, but have flown my companies airplane (I'm the CEO). We first purchased a Cessna 310N and later a 425 Conquest (C-GJHF) which we sold last year. We opened an office in China and I've been doing more long distance travel ever since. It just wasn't cost-effective to keep the aircraft. I haven't flown anything larger and actually prefer to be inverted in a Pitts. I'm getting on in years and quite frankly worry about the medical, so it's probably for the best. I've been thinking of buying something that will allow me to pull some G's and set what hair I've got left on fire. :-)
