  • The solenoid is just a switch. A switch capable of carrying the high current load that the starter draws. If the solenoid engages when you push the start button but the starter does not turn you probably have burned contacts in the solenoid. HD sells a solenoid rebuild kit, you get a new cap with contacts and nuts, new contact disc and a new spring. You can install the kit without even removing the solenoid. DISCONECT THE BATTERY FIRST !!!!! Also on all my shovels (3)I have installed an additional ground cable. From the existing ground location on the frame over to the starter motor.
