It depends, if i make homemade soup we eat it, but if its a quick lunchtime cupasoup then we drink it! also if its a thick soup i would eat it rather than drink it.

Eat if it's chunky, has noodles, vegetables, etc. Drink might imply to take it directly from the container to the mouth, I think, it might apply if it's completely liquid.

You eat AND drink soup. Soup is generally composed of both solid food and broth. And "generally" neither alone constitutes soup. Therefore you MUST eat AND drink your soup. BUT if you absolutely had to use one word to describe the general consumption of soup it would have to be DRINK, for two reasons: (1) There are soups that are purely liquid (Miso Soup), but no soups that are purely solid (diced vegetables is NOT vegetable soup). (2) Websters and Dictionary.com both define soup as a "liquid food." You drink liquids.
