It depends on what you mean by better.
Technically, an unscratched vinyl record produces a truer reproduction of the original sound than does a CD. Sound is waves produced by vibration and a record is made by turning sound waves back into vibrations that are cut into a template. The vinyl record is then stamped directly from this template.
A CD is a digital reproduction or recording of the original sound. Fidelity, or quality is lost when the analog sound wave is converted into digital format for recording and then again when the digital file is converted back to analog for listening.

vinyl is more atmospheric,if you go to reggae dances dubplates just create such a vibe the crackle of the stylus on vinyl gives it an authentic warm sound, where cds sound crisper but a very sterile sound,so I prefer vinyl.theres also the watching the record spinning too it has a magical hypnotic effect on me.

YES. Thankfully some artists are still releasing their new music on vinyl. My husband and I are music maniacs and if it's available on vinyl, that's they way we're going to listen to it!

I'm drawn to vinyl records. I own very few cds (most of them burned) and would love to expand my vinyl collection. I love the way they sound and look. I could rummage through records all day. Plus I view them as an endangered species of sorts. I know one day we won't have them, so I try to take very good care to preserve the ones I have.

Vinyl records used to have such wonderful covers. They were like works of art. i used to read them and take the time to enjoy them. These days Im lucky if I can even read the print on C.D. covers (yes another bummer about getting older)
    peace and happy listening

    Yes.

Vinyl has a warmer sound... like you're wrapped in the music.

CDs are for lazy people. God forbid you might have to get up an FLIP the record...

I am bias I have close to 4000 records (collected over 40years) and hundreds of cd's and for my money LP's win for warmth of sound and the look and feel of the records and covers is magic but cd's are easier to use but are just a fragile as records are when it comes to heat and scratches ...
p.s. even better than both cd's and records are 8 track tapes ...the sound is amazing

Vinyl has a richer sound - I don't like listening to albums on CD on headphones if I first had them on vinyl. But that, for me, is overall cancelled out by the lack of noise from scratches.

It depends on what you like. CD's are great for obvious reasons. But there is a truer (not purer) sound quality in vinyl. You get to hear the quick breaths and other quirks that are usually now only part of the concert-going experience because they're edited out. You sometimes feel more connected to the artist. Plus the actual sound is DIFFERENT, not worse. I grew up listening to some albums on vinyl before they were on cd, so that's the sound I prefer.

CDs are better because of the better sound and they don't relay the noise from scratches. And they take up less space.

In terms of subjective sound quality, yes, vinyl records are better, as the groove of the vinyl record mirrors the form of the original sound-wave.

In terms of acoustical accuracy, no, CD is better. Because the vinyl groove may mirror the original sound wave, but after the first play, every-time you play the record, the groove gets worn down and the accuracy of the original sound slowly fades. The mathematical samples of data on a CD don't wear out and provide an exact representation of the original musical data.

Vinyl is always king and always will be though! Going to a local independent record store and digging through dusty boxes of LPs beats going down to Wal-mart and buying cheap, mass-produced, Chinese-made censored CDs or sitting on your rear end pirating MP3s on your neighbors Wi-Fi. I love LPs, no matter there faults!

I own all CDs but vinyl brings a closer feeling with the music. If my location had a vinyl shop I would certainly invest in few vinyl records. The only problem is that vinyl is limited to how much minutes of music it can contain.
