people get addicted to the sugar hit, as it is loaded with sugars. when your body sugar is low again, you want something that will boost it again.

It doesn't really quench your thirst like water does, so you get thirsty again really quickly. If you are dehydrated, Coke won't help rehydrate you.
Plus, it really tastes good and goes with a lot of different foods.
