  • Not the ones I've seen - but that doesn't mean that none of them do. I know Lays potato chips are just potatoes, oil and salt. If a product has MSG in it, it would be listed under the ingredients (probably as Monosodium Glutamate, but also could say Hydrolized Vegetable Protein) so if you're concerned - just take a look at the package before you eat.
  • No, but fortune cookies have...
  • Most every pre-packaged food has MSG in some form. It may not actually say MSG. It is sometimes disguised as partially hydrogenated vegetable oil, or some other obscure sounding thing. If you want a real eye-opener about MSG and it's harmful effects, PLEASE read "The Slow Poisoning of America". You can't buy the book in the US, but is available on-line at www.spofamerica.com and no, I have no financial interests in that website or the book. It was an incredible read however, and I take every opportunity to turn people on to how bad this sh*t is for you!
  • I have had to do that, too. Publix is about three times as far as Kroger, but the difference is the quality, the selection, and the friendliness of the staff. LeMe, I believe I remember the food industry in the US had something to do with having the book blocked from being released here, but I will have to re-read it and let you know.
  • A quick word on the MSG subject. MSG can be included as "natural flavoring" if the %-age is low enough. Sorry I don't recall teh actual number. If you can get a read of the book "In Bad Taste" don't remember the author.
  • Potato chips that are seasoned may have MSG, but it may not be listed as MSG. It could be listed by a number of names including natural flavorings. Please read my article on MSG. It explains more about reading labels. http://www.ehow.com/how_4476169_recognize-msg-food.html
  • Most do. If it's already added to the oil it often isn't listed on the bag.
  • Jenniferocious unfortunately you are WRONG about Lay's chips; last week I read the ingredients on a package of ketchup flavoured chips manufactured by Lay's, and saw MSG listed as one of the top 10 ingredients ( not only has Lay's used MSG, it used it not exactly sparingly). So don't assume that any one brand is MSG free, but always read the ingredients.
  • Yes; natural flavoring is MSG, according to the book "Heal Your Headache: The 1-2-3 Program for Taking Charge of Your Pain." So I keep reading bags of chips and almost all the flavored ones have "natural flavoring" so they have msg. MSG is a trigger for headaches, so personally I have to avoid all flavored chips. I also can't eat Lean Cuisine as they have MSG as well. Plain potato chips and plain kettle corn do not have MSG.
  • Most flavoured chips have added MSG. the natural ones usually do not.
  • Did you know MSG is derived from the fermentation of carbs? It's pretty innocuous. And tasty!
