Yes, I read that it will be brought back. I'm glad to hear it, as the RX-8 just cannot be the replacement for this great car. I just hope that they go back and take a look at the original RX-7, and build another true sports car!

I've read that the RX-7 will come back soon. The RX-8 was not supposed to replace the RX-7, from my understanding. I HOPE that they go back and take a look at the original RX-7 and make it a 2 seater, true sports car like that was. That's probably wishfull thinking - but one can only hope!

    The answer is... Possibly!

Bet you saw that one coming. Currently there is only a rumor (though a very optimistic rumor) of it happening. I'm rather sure that June '07 issue of "Road and Track" is the original print source, however I could be wrong. It was stated that the reason of bringing it back is the lagging sales of the current RX-8 and buyers are looking for a more pure-bred and affordable performance car rather than one with two extra seats and luxury (for a sports car) ride as in the RX-8.

The rendered design provided in "Road and Track" hints that the new RX-7 would be based off the Mazda Kabura concept from the 2006 Detroit Auto Show. If so it may be available with the revolutionary 3+1 seating configuration (rather than a 2+2) as an option in addition to the standard 2 seats.

Regardless, the RX-8 will soon be dropped from the product line (at least the RX-8 in it's current from) and Mazda will replace it with another rotary powered RWD car. Whether that turns out to be an RX-7, a brand new RX-8, or maybe even an RX-9, very few people know. Either way, don't hold your breath, we probably won't find out until at least 2010.

Oh, and on a side note, there is a very good possibility the next RX will be offered with a hybrid electric powertrain. This is an excellent idea in my opinion as my '91 RX-7 gets an average of 22 MPG on the highway... I'm all for a small electric motor for city driving.

Yes.. as I have heard so far Mazda will bring back the RX-7...as with Supra and Skyline are coming back too...However I am only around 75% sure that they will, because I read my stuff off of sites and they might have been rumors...my friend says its 100% that RX-7 will come back.
