  • nope, haven't noticed that trend.
  • Yes, and I find it very irritating - no offense to your grandfather.
  • I, myself, do that a little bit, I just noticed. Ha ha.
  • Yes! It's one of my biggest pet peeves. You can hear it anywhere- from the tagline in the U.S. Army commericals ("There's shtrong and then there's army shtrong"), Verizon commercials ("We bring it shtraight to your door") to people like Tyra Banks, Michelle Obama, Shia LaBeouf, Denzel Washington, Natalie Morales (Today show), just to name a few. Almost every black person I hear uses the "h" especially in "shtreet," "shtrong," and "hishtree" (history), though I hear quite a few white people use it, too . A lot of New Yorkers and folks from New Jersey are guilty of it. I hear the "h", too, when two words are together. "It's true" becomes "Ishtrue." "his truck" becomes "hishtruck". I hear it so often that I wonder if it had been intentionally taught in school. Don't get me started on the overuse of the word "amazing" ...
  • Ah! Someone else notices and understands me when I say it's like nails on a blackboard to my ears. I posted this comment on facebook just last week, after a colleague said she thought she might have "shtrep": June 1 Nina is sick of people saying "shtreet," "shtress," "shtream"...meterologists are predicting "shtrong shtorms"--WTF?
  • Shlong time, no see! :)
