Yes. Mormon children can participate in Halloween celebrations. It is a holiday for kids to be kids (and to eat as much candy as possible). In fact, most years we have a party or activity around Halloween in the church buildings (not in the chapel of course, but in the recreational areas) so that people can come together and simply have fun. Of course there are limits though. We do not join in wiccan gatherings or anything dealing in the occult (such as ouija boards, sacrifices, ...). These should be avoided like a plague because they can allow Satan too much influence over our minds. He uses such mediums to try to draw us nearer to him. Stay far far away from them.

My wife and I had 7 children and every year they all looked forward to going door to door to say "Trick of Treat? They got far more candy and toys than they ever needed, but they had fun. And that is all it was, to them. They knew nothing about it being a Pagan Holiday, as well. But then a Pagan Holiday is only a Pagan Holiday, if you celebrate it as such. Otherwise it is just another holiday, to dress-up and have fun...Later

Yes, as a religion the Mormon Church have nothing against celebrating holidays such as Halloween--as long as we're not doing or celebrating evil or satanic things. We also are fine with trick-or-treating. Of course, some individual-Mormon parents may not like Halloween because they feel that it's associated with Witches, Skeletons, and creepy stuff like that. Of course, the choice whether to celebrate and how to do so is for the parents to decide.

every mormon i have ever known all have celebrated this holiday as well as the rest of the holidays celebrated by the rest of the churches. etc., etc., etc., not much of a difference between them and the catholic church. the ties that bind are truly strong!!

It is more a question of culture than religion. In the Philippines, members celebrate a traditional Day of the Dead with a picnic in the cemetery. Most congregations within the US have Halloween-themed activities: dances, trunk or treat, movie night, etc. One rule is the person can't wear a mask (make-up and wigs are fine).

Answer: yes many wards even have Halloween parties. - Funny story to go with the answer. When I was about 3 years old, my parents (who have 8 children at this time ages 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, and 15) had just gotten us all our Halloween costumes. And were looking forward to the ward party, the coming Friday. But that Sunday my Mom had an unwelcomed surprise, the party planners had made a "fun" little last minute change to the party. Instead of wearing the normal scary Halloween cosutumes the children should dress up as an ancestor, and then people could ask them who they were and what they did. My mom did not think that was so fun, now not only did she have to come up with 8 new costumes in 5 days, but she was very limited in her choices, and had to learn a story for each one! My dad came up with the solution, he dressed the four of us boys up in mid 1800's looking clothes and told us when people asked who we were we would tell them "We're the Gallaher brothers" and when they asked what we did we would tell them "We killed the prophet." There were some mortified people but my dad told them to be glad he didn't dress us up as our real favorite ancestor, Adam. ;) - Party planners in the future were careful to give mothers plenty of notice regarding change of plans.
