My guess is that a fall is something that just happens, is unplanned and most of the time you can't stop it. Other than that it just sounds better...maybe because that's what I am accustomed to hearing. Who knows?

Laurie Anderson (look her up if you're not familiar with her) said it best (rough quote). Every time you walk forward, you are falling, you use your other foot to stop your fall. So the analogy of moving forward, or taking the next step in a relationship is like falling.

Perhaps because the experience of "falling" in love is similar to "falling" off of a cliff.
