How do you mute a guitar string when it says to play three strings and mute the one in the middle?

    Simply use the finger you would normally use to play the string and hold it on the top string instead of pressing the string onto the fretboard. This will silence it.

    As you get more advanced, you'll learn a technique where you angle a finger that is playing a fretted note into the next string over, both playing one and muting the other at the same time.
