I haven't scientifically tested my theory, but my technique is as follows: after inserting your coin, turn the metal dial/lever as slooooooooooooowly as possible while simultaneously shaking the entire machine. This works because the mechanism is basically a revolving scoop, and you are making sure that all available space is filled, as well as dislodging anything that is stuck together. Be careful though! You can wind up shaking so hard that the receptacle flap flies open and all the candy goes on the floor. And then you have that difficult decision of whether or not to eat it. I say, you've gone this far, why not? those machines are already horrible germ traps from all the little grubby hands that touch them and the fact they are never cleaned. good times!

Prior to inserting the coin, "shake" the handle back and forth. This will let any candy settle to the bottom of the mechanism allowing more candy from the bin to enter the mechanism. Once the coin is inserted and the mechanism begins to turn it will pick up any additional candy as it spins.

There is a way to get more without even having to put in a coin. All you have to do is put a screwdriver in that slot you put the coin in and turn it. It works! The other video I posted didn't have enough to do with this so I took it down. I would like to find the video of how to do this but I just can't find it on YouTube. Hope this helps :)
