  • It is entirely logical to expect with rising petroleum costs. It has been a while since I rode public transit here, but I suspect prices have risen. How much is too much depends entirely on local economics.
  • For me to get around costs about $7 a day in gas, which is a little high. My area totally lack mass transit.
  • I also live in NYC - in Brooklyn...it may seem like a lot, but with gas prices what they are, it's dirt cheap compared to the cost of owning a car or taking cabs...
  • I live in Queens, and it is fine the way it is. If they raise it, I'll bitch, but I'll pay, 'cause I gotta get to work. I have one of those EasyPay Metrocards so I'll just get a bigger bill;(
  • In Santa Clara County $1.75 for a single ride, $5.00 for a day pass. In San Mateo and San Francisco Counties $1.50 for a single ride. To use transit throughout my biking range could easily top $20/day or $700/month, calculated by adding VTA, SamTrans, MUNI, AC Transit, Santa Cruz Metro, San Benito County Transit, CalTrain (all zones), and BART from Millbrae to Fremont. With the cost of fuel, I could understand why the bus fares would increase. There are people who are making such low wages that any fare increase would leave them stranded. I prefer to bike and not deal with the rising fares. Taking the taxi to places I have biked to can exceed $100 one way.
  • In Brussels, for bus, subway, or metro fare it's 1,70 euro. A monthly pass is 41,50 euro. That's just in the Brussels area, however. To get to Brussels, I take a train that would cost 19,80 return trip per day, or 162 euro a month. So, a little over 200 euro a month to get back and forth to work each day. Still super cheap compared to the cost of driving. Plus many companies either pay for your transportation or reimburse part of it. My company reimburses me 60% of my transportation (they get tax breaks) so I end up spending 121 euro a month for travel. Not bad, in my opinion.
  • The subway costs too little to pay for itself! I am having to pay lots of tax dollars to prop up the subway. The price should float based on what it actually costs to deliver the service.
