  • not officially but i think it should be
  • An anarchist imperative.
  • Sure it is, now that they've started selling cracker jacks and singing the national anthem before every jury selection
  • Many people have no interest in serving on jury duty and I will have to include myself I have no interest in hearing about some person who rapes kills or harms another person. I had to show up once and told them I was uncomfortable with the situation I was excused. The judge was getting disgusted because everyone was coming up with reasons and excuses not to serve.
  • If they would actually compensate jurors for what they're worth, it would be worth the while to show up for jury duty.
  • Okay. Now think about this. How do you like the idea of being judged by 12 people who were to dumb to get out of jury duty? If you're going to be judged by a jury, wouldn't you want the most intelligent, rational, attentive and capable jury ever? How are you going to find such a jury if all those great people get excused. That leaves the civil servants, retired people and those born elsewhere who consider serving on a jury a formal and serious duty, and a privilege.
  • Seems to be. Because it's not fun. But ya know what? It's the system we have. And until someone comes up with a better one, we should thank our lucky stars that we live in a country where we have a say in such matters and suck it up! The things we take for granted never cease to amaze me. Go live in a country where people have no rights and come back and complain because a week of your precious time was "wasted" preserving the rights of our citizens! (I've served on three juries, BTW.)
  • People don't want to go to jury duty because it's not in their own interests. It is disruptive to the business and home environments. It's a LOSS IN PAY. I think this is incentive for those who ARE selected to vote guilty ASAP so they can get out of there ASAP (just my opinion). Instead, we should have professional juries who are paid a descent salary who will take the time to deliberate to determine whether the accused is truly guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
  • I don't think there would have to be much change in the way jurors are selected. The point is that jurors should be jurors by their own choice and be compensated well for their services.
