A floppysaurus?
-
Yes I have a floppy drive. The last time I used a floppy was the last time I installed a server with a RAID controller (2 weeks ago). Until Vista came out, the only way to install Windows onto a RAID array that isn't natively supported by Windows was to put the driver for the controller on a floppy. We also snail mail files to vendors on floppies here at work for some reason. Aside from that, if I need to transfer files I use a flash drive.

Most computers made by the major manufacturers do not have diskette drives, parallel ports, or com ports anymore. Next to go will probably be the mouse and keyboard ports, since they can connect with USB instead. Then I bet the ethernet port will go, with everyone going wireless. Then the monitor port will go, and the PCCard slot. Finally, even after Blu-ray, the CD/DVD/etc drive will die, since people download all their movies and music, and use external hard drives for storage and backup. Eventually the only way to physically connect anything will be USB and SD cards.

I used a floppy for a password recovery disk I use from time to time at work when someone decided to put the wrong local admin password in

A what? I can't remember the last time I burned a CD for anything besides a Linux Live Distro. CDs are becoming useless, too.

Nope. Needed the 3-1/2" bay for another hard drive. Got a USB drive.

I always keep one on my desktop should I ever want to play some of those old DOS games :P
