At best this sounds like an attempt to circumvent any regulations in force where the permit was issued. If you are required to provide the name of the contractor to receive the permit and you provide the name of a company that is not involved in the job, it could be interpreted that both you and the contractor are trying to circumvent the law. This would be particularly true if the contractor received money to enter a conspiracy to falsify a permit.

Such an action would be punishable, at the least, by the invalidation of the permit and, quite possibly, fines for both you and the contractor. It is certainly not a wise thing to do, in the event the contractor performs substandard work or if the building inspector does not approve any work that has been done.

The short name: fraud. The short answer: if there are any problems you will be on the hook.
