  • to the vet in the morning.
  • He needs to go to the VET NOW. This is a very painful and annoying condition for a dog to have, and it needs to be seen to ASAP. This being said...I personally have some issues with the normal Western Medicine treatment of this condition. The first cause of action is to clear up the immediate problem in terms of the SYMPTOMS the dog is experiencing, because it is grossly uncomfortable for the dog. However, most of the time Vets who rely only on typical Western Medicine in their practice use Antibiotics. Antibiotics address the symptom of an INFECTION which is what you have. Unfortunately, they do not address the CAUSE of the problem...they treat the symptom of the problem. Many Vets also suggest Benadryl for additional suppression of the problem. Suppression of the problem also does not address the CAUSE of the problem. With our Chocolate Lab, Coffee (RIP) we tried changing her food, with no real benefit to stopping the cause. (many dogs are allergic to corn based feeds...we weren't feeding a corn based diet...but we started with possible food allergies to rule them out). We realized that every time Coffee was allowed to lay out in the grass to sun herself she BROKE OUT in red spots (welts really) all over her tummy. HMMMMMM, this isn't normal! A one month trial and error run showed that Coffee was allergic to GRASS! Three to five minutes MAYBE once a week was ALL she could tolerate without causing her to break out. Once the Allergy was under control...no more Benadryl...no more antibiotics, and the ear problems became so small that we could treat them successfully with regular cleaning, and keeping the insides dry. NO MORE infections! We use NO chemical products on our lawns, but many people do. Your dog could be allergic to foods, lawn treatments, cleaning products you use in the house..on the floors the dog walks upon, lays upon, and licks the paws after walking on floors. Vaccines can trigger negative reactions that can result in skin allergies and other problems as well...internal and behavioral. Flea and Tick products that are Toxic (POISON) often cause other side effects to dogs and cats. Even if the animal was not allergic "before" the toxin levels can BUILD UP and cause negative reactions. I don't normally suggest Allergy Tests for animals, because 3 different Vets (who would have made a nice chunk of change ALL said the same thing about Allergy Tests) Allergy Tests for animals are not unlike Allergy Tests for humans...while they can help pin point the suspected allergy...they are sometimes inconclusive, sometimes dead wrong (as were the ones I had myself when I was about 18) and they are ALWAYS expensive! Better or just as good to run your own tests at home...READ the ingredients on your pet food and try different types...find a Holistic Vet who will consider other treatment options that are less likely to cause Negative Side Effects... The NUMBER ONE need, right now, is to provide relief for the dog...the rest are for your considerations as to how to STOP the problem or control it once and for all.
  • to the vet ASAP, and while I agree with everything Redhawk said, (I would have given you plenty more points if I could!) it sounds like your dog's ear problem has gone beyond what you can safely treat at home.
