If a dealership obtains a car from another dealership's inventory to sell to a customer by purchasing, not by trading, doesn't the obtaining dealership just pay whatever the original dealer's invoice was?

    yes, but depending on demand some dealers will want some profit.if a dealers wants too much however word travels fast and he wont be getting very many offers from other dealers...
