  • Assuming that there is no fracture. First two days : Caution is the word. Use a support to walk around. Walk only in order to remove the stiffness in the joint - not for long time. Next 1 week : Increase the duration of walking, maybe climbing few stairs. All these days, use hot pad or cold+hot pad for easing the pain. Painkiller would help you - but depend more upon your body-resistance. Sleep with a pillow under the knee - this will keep your knee upraised and allow the ligaments to come back to normalcy.
  • Stay off of your feet as much as possible and use pillows to raise your leg up + 5
  • The RICE treatment works: Rest Ice Compression Elevation Knee injuries take a l-o-n-g time to heal, depending on the severity...there's lots of soft tissue and less blood flow to several parts (like the meniscus) than other body parts. Over the counter braces do help. If it doesn't feel 100% in a week or so, seek physical therapy as it can work wonders.
  • I have really bad knees so I know the pain you're in - my suggestion is to keep off your bad knee - and if you must walk around, try to stay on as even of surface as you can. For me - my knee always seems to give out when I'm walking down a slope. Hope this helps!
