  • Personally, I like www.dyndns.com -- they have a wide range of custom DNS services as well as domain registration, it's nice to have that kind of flexibility all in one place. But really, just about any domain registrar will do the job. It's sort of a commodity service, as long as they have a web interface for managing your account.
  • I usually use the same company I purchase webhosting from. It makes payments simpler, and they usually have competitive prices.
  • Try ChannelMe.TV if you want to register a .TV name. And before you assume that you want a dot COM name, consider dot TV for a minute. The pros of .TV domain names: 1) There are still a lot of good ones left. (All of the good dot COMs are taken!) 2) Dot TV is very 2008. (Dot COM is very 2000.) 3) Dot TV signifies that your site has media-rich elements to it. So if your site uses any video, photos, etc., .TV is a great option. Check out What is .TV? to learn more.
  • Domain registration is the same with any domain registrar. Usually I compare them by price and free extra items.
  • The cheapest is not necessarily the best solution. You have to do some homework and make sure that you choose a host that can adequately provide you with the services you require, depending on the type of site you want to develop (blog, personal, business, e-commerce, educational, etc.) My advice is to look up consumer reports and do comparison shopping. I recommend Host Gator, Network Solutions and GoDaddy.
  • Your internet provider (Virgin Media, AOL, BT, tiscaly ect.) should give you free webspace to create webpages and share your suff online. To get your own personalised URL like www.iloveicecream.co.uk it will cost about £4.99
  • I have to say Godaddy Depending on how many domain names you want to register, they have a pretty nice control panel for management. Also, if you google for "godaddy promo codes" you can get additional discounts. Also, I have to say that I'm totally against using my webhoster as registrar. I've had issues in the past that made recovering/transfering domains a true nightmare. For example, a few years ago, the company I was using to host my websites went out of business. No warning! I could have avoided the nightmare of trying to prove my identity with network solutions so that I could regain control over my domains. Very costly too. Another case, I had a client that had been the victim of over billing at his ISP and they literally kept his domain name hostage until he paid up. That ended in court $$$ legal fees. Also beware of ISPs that give you free domain name with your hosting account. I remember a case where a customer wanting to leave the ISP was told that the domain belonged to them. He could leave...but the domain name was their property. It was a premium domain name and again, it went to court and he lost. So in the end... I strongly suggest to seperate the two. A domain registrar for domain name management and website hosting company for your websites. That way your investment is always protected.
