wrong, god never existed

Nietzsche is so wrong. God is always present, whether people believe in him or not. Also God exists outside of our normal concept of time, and is always there, no matter what. If someone is there all the time, can they be dead? NO!
-
Something that never existed in the first place can not die.

Nietzsche though so and so do many others. If you believe him to be right then you are convinced but many others believe that he was quite wrong and so they believe that God is alive. I believe that Nietzsche was wrong but I cannot prove it others believe I am wrong and equally they cannot prove it! Status quo! But I believe that God does prove Himself to all who are really interested!

I would say that he was right. The concept of God is such a broad and varied concept that how can we use His teachings as gospel when there are so many different views of Him and what He stands for. The greater atheism becomes the more intangible the concept of God is and his moral code. We use/will use the morals that are natural to us: Support others as animals in a pack do in every way.

Nietzsche did not llterally mean "God is physically dead". Nietzsche was a wonderful, deeply misunderstood philosopher (mainly due to his sister's (Elizabeth if memory serves) antics after his death ws he assosciated with the anti-semetic movemnt etc which Nietzsche himself abhored) He was making the point that God, or Christianity, was no longer recognised by humans as the source of absolute morality. It is a concept that could lead to Nihilism, the utter rejection of any universal moral law or code. Nietzsche thought that the rejection of this 'imposed' morality would lead to a blank canvas. Only by presionally overcoming one's internal Nihilism and becoming Ubermensch (Overmen a type of mythic hero). THis was Nietzsche 's goal following his realisation that "God is dead"; ro reevaluate all values without appealing to Universal Absolutes as represented by God. So is God dead? Do we look to God for our moral absolutes? I don't think we do, not even the most die hard evangelical could claim to follow the teachings of the Bible literally, whilst alot of us have no religious input to our moral position whatsoever. So as Nietzsche meant the phrase I think he was making a very valid point. Interestingly Nietzsche also said that whilst God was dead his shadow continued to survive in many places and to become true Ubermensch we needed to kill God's shadow as well. :)

The quote in it's *entirety* grossly changes this thought and what it means to us: "God is dead, *and we have killed Him*." Big difference, yes? ;-)
-
I would say that he is right. He makes it clear that the concept of God was killed by the age of enlightenment and via science. He also knew that killing the concept of God would take a LONG time. "God is indeed dead" it's just that many don't realize it. I think that if he were alive today he would surely continue to say "We have no right to believe in God anymore". We need to realize our own power and let go of the old ideas in order for humanity to rise to its possible height. Unfortunately many will always shun the notion and thus we stagnate to some extent..But at least life and people are interesting enough for the continuance of happiness. Life is good despite the fact that superstition runs rampant.

"God is dead"/Nietzche "Ha,Ha.Nietzche is dead"/God
-
If he was talking about whether or not he lives within his life then perhaps Nietzsche was right.

That may have been the most optimistic statement ever made by the grandfather of nihilism. Philosophers have predicted the end of religion almost as frequently (and always as erroneously) as the mystics have predicted the end of the world. Once you see theism for what it is, as Nietzsche did, it's difficult to imagine it sustaining itself beyond a few more generations. And yet, here we are, with advancements and technologies the likes of which Nietzsche couldn't have imagined, contending with a surge of religious fundamentalism. We are still not ready to give up the ghost, holy or otherwise. Zarathustra will have to wait.

The entire quote = "God is dead and we have killed Him." N. has a "madman" say this in "The Gay Science". Without putting nearly the work Greg (here) did, it refers to the death of humanity's childhood. ;-)
-
Ohhhhhh......yawn. God is whatever you want god to be. Most people worship themselves and money - in that order - regardless of what they tell you. You be the judge.
-
Yes, the christian god is dead, because people killed hem (read zarathustra if you like)
