  • In essence, all diets work the same way (regardless of how they are "sold", regardless of claims made): they all work by restricting caloric intake. That is: they all work by reducing the number of calories you eat. *** Things like Atkins diet - there's something to the "more protein" thing, but the main effective factor is not the protein. The main effective factor is eliminating carbs, which are high in calories. A person on the Atkins diet who loses weight, loses weight primarily because they are consuming fewer calories. The high protein thing is also a factor, but a relatively minor one.
