I've never seen a SotUA that wasn't a crowd-pleaser. That's probably the primary purpose of it (nowadays). Of course it has REAL purpose in times of REAL hardship (like WWII, for example). *** That being said: I've probably watched fewer than half a dozen SotUAs in my life. It's been political agenda every time. That is: IMO the main point is always "I'm doing a great job as President! Vote for me in the next election!"

Hmm. Where'd you see those numbers? Not saying you are wrong, just that I find those numbers surprising for a president whose approval rating is fairly low ( https://www.nbcnews.com/meet-the-press/meetthepressblog/nbc-poll-says-state-joe-bidens-union-rcna69513 ) and for a SotUA that the media is panning pretty hard ( https://edition.cnn.com/politics/live-news/biden-state-of-the-union-2023/index.html ).

72%? It doesn't seem like it. The most important subject Biden should have touched on is the Chinese balloons, and he failed to talk about them. What he had to say in regards to our National security: "As we made it clear last week, if China threatens our sovereignty, we will act to protect our country." That's one way to move the subject out of the way, and move on to the next one. 😆
