  • Is it supposed to be?
  • No, it most certainly is not. Snakes never could talk and neither can donkeys or burning bushes. There is no evidence of a world flood. There is not enough water for the flood described in Genesis. The ark was said to be 100% wood, and it would fall apart in the sea if that was the case. The sky cannot roll up like a scroll. Stars cannot just fall to Earth. Most of them are much larger than our planet, and they would burn it to a cinder if they came very close. Pi is not just 3. Bats are not birds. Whales are not fish. Jesus could not be born twice about 20 years apart. Joseph could not have two different fathers.

Seriously? How misguided can one be to LITERALLY believe in a talking snake??? My oh my, I won't even go over your other paragraphs, since the beginning of your answer is outrageous. Take it from a dog. When it waggles its tail, it is obviously telling you something. Likewise with the serpent that lured Eve.

Fundamentalists claim every word in the Bible is literally true. I do not care what you look at. Just do not pester me with it. What are you saying. Can you mean the Bible is merely crude primitive fiction. If the tale of Adam and Eve is not true, that means there is no basis for Christianity. I do not come near dogs. Your final sentence contradicts your first one. Genesis says it was a snake, but Revelations says it was The Devil appearing to be a snake.

Quote: "Fundamentalists claim every word in the Bible is literally true." Fundamentalists are barely learning the basics. The Bible says if your hand causes you to sin to cut it off in Matthew 5:30. Until then and now, no fundamentalist has ever cut his or her hand off. *Facepalm*

You do not need to quote anyone when what he wrote is there in front of him. My maternal grandfather was a Baptist pastor, and he and his wife also taught school. I was taken to church every Sunday and made to read the Bible daily from age 4 to 18. I also read my grandparents' other books on Science, Literature, History, etc. When I began school at age six, I was reading Science books that sixth graders could not comprehend. I saw conflicts between Science and the Bible by age six and using my grandfather's concordance showed me there are many contradictions in the Bible. I read about the ancient Greek and Norse gods. Later, I took Comparative Religions and Bible History in college. You evidently hate fundamentalists, and they hate you. There is war among various sects and cults.

Quoting is to indicate your faults. Baptists are among the worse denominations who teach false doctrines. Tithing is from the Old Testament, while Once Saved Always Saved is unbiblical. I don't see why you would put your trust on those rotten eggs that have been disposed of by many Christian theologians who study the Bible. You are not supposed to believe every preacher you come across. All pastors do not agree with each other. Agree with the ones who teach sound doctrine.

Chia-Li, you may have read the Bible daily for 14 years, but that does not mean you understand it. From your comments I would say you that you do not understand it. As to my original question, the bible is scientifically accurate. For example the rain cycle. The Bible accurately describes how it works. With regards to health, in Proverbs you can see that it tells you to have a calm heart, Medical practitioners will tell you to avoid stress and anxiety and you will avoid heart attacks.Plus there are a lot more scriptures which will back up science, but lack of space prevents me.

I understand it quite well. MY IQ is the highest in the history of my school. I learn many things amazingly quickly. I began reading it by age 4, and I evidently understand it much better than you do. I doubted it by age six, and that is much smarter than you will ever be. It says twice that pi is 3, it says there was a world flood, snakes talk, bats are birds, whale are fish, etc.

Pei, quote: "I understand it quite well." Literal thinking is far from understanding the Bible. 1 Corinthians 2:14 "The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned." If you can't understand the talking snake concept, you obviously do not understand how animals interact with humans.

Pei,Pei Chia-Li " I understand it quite well. MY IQ is the highest in the history of my school." Having a high IQ does not necessarily mean you have understanding. Having understanding is being able to see into a matter and discern it composition by separating the individual factors or feature that compose or act together to form the whole, then to perceive the relationship between them and thus comprehend or grasp, the significance or meaning of the matter. However, even though a person may basically comprehend wha is said to him, understanding can also go beyond such simple comprehension; it means that he gets the real significance and sense of the message, then is able to evaluate it, benefit by it and know what action it calls for. Despite intensive research over centuries, many features and cycles operating according to divine laws still elude man"s full comprehension. Understanding may relate to knowledge and skill for example in construction and design. Others may be expert in matter of music, linguistics, writing or other scholarly subjects, this can be gained through natural abilities and effort. Proverbs 1 v 1 - 6 shows that" the man of understanding is the one who acquires skilful direction to understand a proverb and a puzzling saying, the words of wise persons and their riddles" Knowledge and understanding together bring wisdom, which is the prime thing, the ability to bring a fund of knowledge and keen understanding to bear on problems with successful results. You are like the men mentioned in Colossians 1 verses 9 & 10.
  • Yes, the Bible teaches about astronomy, biology, medicine and etc. The original texts of the biblical books were not written in English. The original biblical authors wrote in Hebrew and Greek and in a few instances Aramaic. Anyone who feels the Bible is not scientifically accurate does not understand archaeology, translations and metaphors to see that there is a universal satisfaction with the outcome.

It has errors about science that we should expect from illiterate barbarians. It indicates the Earth is flat and the sky is a solid dome 15 miles or less above us. It says the sky will roll up like a scroll, and stars will fall to Earth.
    • Jenny The Great ⭐
Quote: "It indicates the Earth is flat" The Hebrew word for circle is"chug." It is not difficult to see how a sphere appears as a circle when seen from above. The definition of sphere: "an object shaped like a round ball:"
    • Butterflies67
Chia-Li as I mentioned in a previous comment the Bible accurately agrees with Science. But Science does not always agree with the Bible. In ancient times, various peoples considered the earth to be flat, or that it was balanced on the back of an elephant. But in Isaiah it tells us quite plainly that the earth is a circle - Isa Ch 40 v 22,.
    • Pei Chia-Li
The Bible makes numerous scientific errors. A circle is flat. Even in Revelation, we see implications that Earth is flat with the sky being a solid dome 15 miles or less above us. Some ancient Greeks knew much more than the authors of the Bible. They calculated the circumference of Earth and distance tot he Moon. .They knew Earth is not a flar circle but a sphere.

Pei, quote: "The Bible makes numerous scientific errors. A circle is flat." If you read my comment, I made it clear that the Bible uses the word circle for "chug" in Hebrew to speak of a sphere. Apparently you don't understand Hebrew. Not to worry: sphere meaning: "1. an object shaped like a round ball:" https://dictionary.cambridge.org/us/dictionary/english/sphere
  • The bible was never meant to be a scientific book, it was meant as a spiritual teaching for the inner man and his spiritual dilemma.
    • Butterflies67
That is true. But it also contains some scientific facts such as the rain cycle, the earth being a circle, also health in the book of Leviticus
    • Creamcrackered
It does contain some science, like astronomy, but that was not its purpose, it wasn't written to teach you about the world, it was written for man to return to God through reconciliation, so that God can be all and in all.
  • No, it is most certainly not. Science itself describes that which can be measured and investigated. Religion itself is a matter of belief in ethics, philosophy, and/or metaphysics, none of which connect with science in any way. Personally, I believe that there are a lot of good teachings in the Bible, but, particularly in the old testament, when it relates information about four-legged insects, rabbits who chew their cud, whales that swallow people whole, and so forth, it was obviously written by imperfect people, which flies in the face of fundamentalist Christian teaching.
