  • Carbon dioxide or CO2 is a byproduct of combustion. When fuel containing carbon atoms is flamed in the presence of an abundance of oxygen, the carbon atoms bond to oxygen, releasing heat and carbon dioxide. For example, if octane (C8H18) is burnt in a process, the chemical reaction is given by the equation 2 C8H18 +25 O2 = 16 CO2 + 18 H2O + 426 J/mol of heat. This process happens in large enough bulk that mankind consumes about 400 exajoules of energy from this process yearly, which will create about 5 x 10^46 carbon dioxide molecules each year. Since an average mature tree can fix 20 kg of carbon dioxide per year, it would take 10^47 trees to balance that much CO2.

So man can't make co2 they just burn things containing carbon that attach to oxygen. Wouldn't a lightening strike do the same thing naturally? But man can make carbon by having babies? Living in the south I can guarantee it doesn't take long in a co2 rich environment for kudzu to cover up and reclaim buildings! Did you figure in the kudzu? Doesn't satellite imaging show our world is greener than ever before? Climatologist Dr. Spencer discussing climate change https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=50lIcBmiCHk&feature=youtu.be

If you mean, literally, "how does [a] man [i.e. human being] make CO2?" then it's a question of biology, rather than physical science, but I assumed that wasn't what you meant. Lightning also does burn things, but, there is no comparison between the energy released by lightning and the 100 million barrels of oil burned up every day by mankind. From the video (at 2:09) - Bubba: "Is the temperatures [sic] on planet Earth warming?" Dr. Spencer: "Well, very irregularly and very slowly, yes." He then goes on to explain that global average temperatures have increased by more than one degree Fahrenheit since the 1950's. He also states about 8 minutes into the video that at lease half of the increase in global temperature is directly due to increased CO2 emissions due to human activity. I'm not at all sure what you think the video proves, but it does a pretty terrible job supporting your conjecture that human activity has no global consequences on climate!

"your conjecture that human activity has no global consequences on climate!" I never said that!! He also says co2 causes more plants to grow and that scrubs the air and lowers reflective temperatures. He also said much much more about how little a difference 1 degree makes, but you only hear what you want to. He also said how people with his job get government grants and with no pending disaster there is no grant! The thought of man making carbon came after the question was asked. And at the rate we're going we'll run out of oil before we raise the temp another degree! He talked about how the waters have only risen an inch or so as well. But like I said you only hear what you want to. Believe away!! Sacrifice out your ass! It makes no difference to me, but don't try to take away my liberties over barely distinguishable differences that will be naturally balanced. That's what I've been saying all along. That and how stupid it is to think that your sacrifice matters when China and India aren't joining in on the panic.

"but don't try to take away my liberties over barely distinguishable differences that will be naturally balanced. That's what I've been saying all along." This is the first you've said that. Maybe figure out what your point is, then post questions about the political aspects of this, instead of tripe like "How does man make CO2?" "Do you man made global warming believers ever wonder how the earth warmed back from two ice ages with no industrial age at all?" or "Our AB self proclaimed global warming experts admit one person isn't going to make a difference. HOWEVER, this is a GLOBAL issue!! So basically if China and India aren't on board all your sacrifices are wasted anyway?!!" and instead post questions like "Will a carbon tax in the US actually have a positive effect on the environment or not?" or whatever.

I'll post however I please and if you don't like it that's fine by me! In fact I was about over the subject but now I think I'll make it a point to post about 20 more before I'm done! hahaha No, wait! I think you got more pissed when I asked how in the world your wife puts up with you. Maybe I'll go that route instead. I haven't been pb'd in a long time! hahaha

So your attitude here is to harass people until you get temporarily banned, rather than to contribute anything educational or thought-provoking to the site. No wonder so few of the original AB's stuck around.
