  • You choose whether you take that first drink that takes you out of remission.
  • Actually, I think you could get yelled at for having bulimia and anorexia, both of which are considered diseases.
  • I take it you've never seen a crowd of homophobes yelling at AIDs patients.
  • Alcohol may be a disease but it is much more controllable than all other diseases. If someone with leukemia could make their blood clean by putting down the bottle, they would in a split second.
  • Actually, if you knowingly have sex with someone with an STD, which is also a disease, and get it, you can be yelled at for that too. But both are similar, you knowingly are doing something to yourself. Though any addiction is a disease, including internet addiction.
  • Get a little bit of clap and see if your significant other doesn't have a few elevated words to share wit you.
  • If alcoholism is a disease (which I could be very easily persuaded it is being an ex one myself!) wouldn't all drug addictions become a disease naturally? After all alcohol is just another drug (and a nasty one at that). People get sent to prison for just posessing or using certain drugs let alone being 'addicts'. So I would argue you could generalise to all drug addictions. Alot of people scream and shout at people with mental disorders such as depression as well. Not a disease as such but I suppose addiction isn't either, it is a condition; so perhaps mental disorders could be a case in point as well?
  • Where do YOU live? Everywhere I've been, it's, "Oh, you poor alcoholic." Smokers, however, are dumped on worse than child molesters are. Alcoholics have it easy.
  • alcoholism is also a genetically inherited disease...even depressions can be inherited...but all can be controlled and cured...even schitzophrenia(Beautiful mind) ...pediphelia, homosexuality....all acute brain disfunctions or non working parts...the whole key is the genetic personality of each!! KEY..is accepting u have the problem and doing something about ...problem is.most dont accept and genetics are not of a fighting it personality..it is much easier to give into it than struggle with....dyslexia, is uncurable, not inherited , but these children suffer extreme hostility from parents and shut down in confidence and social....this question is SHALLOW in trying to say only "alcoholism" gets mistreated!!! those mistreated are the only ones who can treat themselves...this is my personal views..:)justme
  • It's not the only one, but moral busybodies view alcohol as a massive evil. It's readily available, cheap, powerful, and associated with sexual inhibition. That's why you have authoritarian groups like Mothers Against Drunk Driving and the Robert Woods Johnson Foundation lobbying for severe restrictions ob or elimination of its production and consumption.
  • follow this link http://www.southparkstudios.com/episodes/103677/ It's a light hearted way to show that alcoholism is not a diease, but an addiction, and can be handled by some self control
  • Alcoholism is no more a disease than gambling, smoking, pornography or drug addiction are diseases. That idea was concucted by a priest who - in line with teachings from the Catholic church - wanted to wipe the drunkards' accountability and wrong doing from the act of drinking much like saying a bunch of Hail Marys makes it ok to sexually molest little boys. Alcoholism is an addiction, a vice and a weakness and calling it a disease is a cop out and an excuse plain and simple
  • because you chose to have the disease
