Almost all alloy-skinned aircraft have panels about 3 - 4 mm thick. They would use an alloy of Aluminium called 2024, which has small amounts of copper and other metals to increase its strength. The alloy would also be tempered to a condition called T3, which makes it much stiffer and stronger than if it were in its natural condition. The skin would be cold-riveted to an alloy frame, and is actually a part of the structure. The frame and skin are joined to form a solid, integral structure, called 'semi-monocoque'.

Wing panels and such would vary on stress requirements, but could be well over a centimetre thick.
