  • I Disagree. Tradesman - master of one. Jack Of All Trades - master of none. I'll explain my answer this way ... I have four trades to my credit, plus I've owned 8 businesses, and the only time I've ever been unemployed ... is when I wanted to be.

but that's four trades and business experience! Not just Being specialized in only one trade.

A person that knows a little about everything, doesn't know a lot about anything. And that's not the person I want fixing my car or doing electrical work on my house, I want someone who is qualified to do the work properly in the first place.

The question was not who's better prepared to do the job it was who's better prepared to deal with life. Society needs both. And I can agree to disagree

Yes you can, we all have our opinion, that's fine and as it should be. But I do know both tradesmen and jack of all trades. The latter haven't done very well at dealing with life at all. The tradesmen, on the other hand, are secure, a lot better off and by comparison have dealt very well when life has thrown them a curve ball.

      Ok that's fair

It suggests a choice to agree or disagree with the quote. Or as biblereviews did you can agree on part of it and disagree on part.
  • I agree. The aspects missing in his skills can be learned. At least he will have a foundation to build on.
  • That depends on the nature of the particular trade and on it's needfulness (in all expected or likely economic conditions). For example: a professional plumber is needed wherever there is plumbing...even during "hard times", whereas a jack-of-all-trades is more likely to have difficulty finding work. On the other hand, if the trade is something like - say - high rise metalworker, hard times means practically guaranteed to be out-of-work, and the jack will be more likely to be able to find work.
