Because the blue light waves are reflected and scattered more prominently in the atmosphere in mid day. The shorter wavelengths of red and orange are reflected more prominently when the sun is at a different angle to the Earth in the mornings and evenings at night the sky is black because the light is not shining on this side of the Earth.
