  • you have to register to vote. if you don't you won't be entitles to social security benefits (whatever is left) when you are older. i am 18 and the day i turned 18 like 27 different people gave me a registration form.
  • 18 year old guys must register with Selective Service System (i.e. the draft) within 30 days of turning 18. Otherwise there is nothing you have to do. You can choose to register to vote, but you don't have to. FYI: Social Security is not linked to voter registrations. The amount of social security you qualify for depends on how much you work/earn in your lifetime. Your employer reports your earnings to the IRS, which reports them to the Social Security Administration. Courts do use voter registrations in some states to determine who is eligible for jury duty, so some say not to register to avoid being called. However, states also use DMV records, so this tactic only helps if you don't have a license or state sponsored ID card.
