  • 2-25-2017 The first Intel computer chip was the 8008. Then they marketed the 8016, obviously twice as good as the 8008. Then they concocted a totally new way to computes, so they called it the 80286. But they made a mistake and that model was not a big advancement, so they produced the 386, the first actual multi-processing computer chip. The next version was the 80486, and again they blew it: the math coprocessor was a mess. Then they got tired of just upping the numbers on each new model, so the next upgrade was named Pentium. That was twenty years ago. Now they have gone on to multiple cores and fantastic clock rates and they give the models code numbers so you can get your cpu into the correct socket.
