Why is it such a common typo for people to omit the space between the words "a" and "lot"?
In other words, why do I keep seeing "alot" typed as one word instead of two separate words?

I can tell you that there is a generation who either don't know or just don't care that there is no such word as "alot". I know I see it a lot as well. : 0

12-06-2016 Maybe because you are hanging out with a lot of folks over 70 or so. I notice that since I passed 70, my fingers no longer go where I wish they would. I type alot of stugf this isi misspelleld and there is nothing but to proofread and correct it all.

Keble Bolly-Jocksford I don't hang out with folks over 70. Very few of my friends are even over 60. Anyway, regardless of age, it doesn't hurt to proofread before posting, does it?

I don't know, but my son doesn't do that and he is still only 12. He enters his teens next March, so maybe then he will start going through a phase of thinking it is "cool" to mess around with the English language, I don't know yet. Time will tell. Still, I never wrote or typed "a lot" as one word when I was a teenager, and I don't think any of my sisters ever did either.
