Bat speed is determined by the weight and the length. To swing faster with an aluminum bat, get a shorter or a lighter one.

joes answer is not entirely true..while bat size is a factor the most important factor is your hitting "mechanics"..keeping your hands back, properly shifting your weight and staying on the ball, not opening your front hip too soon...if you open up too soon your swinging with all arm and won't generate enough bat speed to make solid contact regardless of what size bat you use...

If you are talking drills here are some: hit soft-toss with a donut on the barrel, this will add extra weight making your fast twitch muscles work harder and be faster when the donut comes off. Do not compensate your mechanics, keep everything the same and focus on hitting by using your hands. No more than 20 pitches at a time, you tend to get too tired. Choke up on a bat and swing with one hand, then the other. The opposite hand goes on your chest. Get in a stance, to where you have already completed your stride and turned your hip. Keep your hands up (for ten balls), hit the balls as fast as possible. make sure you get your hands back to the begining every time. Get your abs and legs stronger, that is where 80% of the game is played.
