Do you think people only say "+2" and such so people will know who gave them points so that they might get points back?

Hahaha I just saying once in awhile to put more emphasis on what they said, and how I agree. You know me ;) I don't care about points. - Wow this is the most I have been down rated in one answer before haha I have an idea because of it (don't know when I will try it though).

When I do it, it's because I don't feel like actually responding to the answer but feel the need to let the person know that I was "giving them props," because I strongly agree with their answer. I don't always let someone know when I rate their question up, but when I do it's because I felt that the answer deserved more than just points.

Only when they're new. Only a handful of more experienced users do that. When I answer a question I automatically give it 5 points as a way of appreciating the question. It's not going to mal-affect me if I do this to every question I answer. When I check answers to my questions I give out points 1-6 based upon the quality of the answer.

I've only noticed people doing that because other people downrate for no reason so they point out the fact they are helping by + rating them.

good question, but people said it to me when i was new and my account wasn't confirmed, so they knew i couldn't give points back. Maybe they just want you to know how many points they have given you, so you can see exactly how good they thought your question/answer was?

I don't know, maybe but i guess not everyone do it for that reason, when i comment i actually say something to keep a conversation going even if i point them up or not i rather not make it obvious, i just give points and i dont mind if they dont give me any.

I don't know, I bestow points anonymously. Perhaps they do it just so that others know they are a friend. Personally, I wish they wouldn't though, because it puts that feedback on the answer AND the person who asked the question...and everyone else who has commented. It's a nightmare for managing an active account.
