  • As far as I know, newborn drug testing isn't mandated in any state. However, the pregnant mother DOES have to submit a urine sample upon admission to the hospital. If you're pregnant and using drugs, I hope they take your drug addicted child away.
  • It is not required in any state, however your doctor or midwife can, and will order a test if there is any medical indication to do so (one reason to get a really good midwife). Medical indication means a medical history of drug use, or abuse, a urine sample from a prenatal visit that came up positive, or any problems your newborn may have upon birth that would indicate drug exposure in utero. I personally believe that this is a terrible practice, because so many women who use cannabis during pregnancy for the benefits is holds for many women are targeted unnecessarily, seeing as prenatal cannabis exposure holds no risks, and many benefits to the stressed out, or morning sickness ridden pregnancy... I hope for your baby's sake you are asking this question because of marijuana.
