I live in New Zealand and in my experiance I have found the best thing to do is ask your local NZ or Australian Film commission about the ins and outs of how to get involved in TV and Film work. Or aproach Channel 7 or whichever channel it is that you have in your country I think it's channel 7 thats well known for it's news over there correct? Writing a letter to your local Television Stations just asking for info on how does one get involved in the Film and Television industry they are more likely to be able to give you real advice. unfortunatley some film schools will tell you anything just to get money out of you. We have had some film schools in New Zealand particularly one down South that students paid huge fee's for and they never delivered on giving them proper training that was respected by the industry. I am sure if you write in to the Australian TV &Film comission (I think that's their name) they would give you some good advice on how to get started or, which schools to go to and, which area to major in depending on what it is you wish to do. Have some clear ideas as to what it is you really want to do acting, film crew work such as lighting camera work or special effects makeup artistry etc so that they know what advice to give you. Put it in writing they are more likely to reply to you and send it via mail not email address it to the manager. Ring up the company first and ask the reception the name of the manager first just tell them you want to send a letter to him/her and you would prefer to address them by their correct name. This helps to give a good first impression you never know they might even be willing to give you a job interview if they see you are keen and have some skills already but like anyone in this industry remember try and try again you can give up and be negative just because you get rejected once or twice or even 20 times. there are hundreds of people who go to hollywood dreaming of stardom not many make it, and it's easy to give up it's a cut throat industry. But what one person thinks of you may not be what steven speilberg thinks of you when you bump into him walking down the street you just never know when you have you lucky break. My Aunt was a university lecturer and never acted in her life, she's aproaching 60 but looks and seems younger she was in a resturant in London where she lives. And a movie producer happend to be there. she didn't know who he was but obviously he noticed her and came up to her table and asked her `would you like to be in a movie?' she was stunned and didn't know what to say or whether he was for real. He took out a pen from his pocket wrote a time and date on the back of his business card and said if you're interested be there at 4AM on this day. She was worried he might be some weirdo asking her to go to a place at 4AM so she took a friend just in case, but he was genuine and since this she has now been in the second Harry Potter film also the Ali-G movie and several Hugh Grant films. she is on billboards in London adevertising the AA association and has her own agent. You never know so just keep trying. The other alternative if you have the money or take out a loan is many people make their own movies or TV programmes and try and sell them to TV companies but you need to have some knowledge on how to make professional movie footage their are many books out their like the guide to gorilla movie making about how to make raw movies for the beginner Look it up in google if that's your sort of thing Hope this very long email helps lol
