It depends on the transmission. The standard for today's trucks are usually around ten gears. I still see thirteen and even a few trucks with more than that, but the biggest transmission manufacturer today is Eaton-Fuller, and they normally are a ten speed.

DEPENDING ON THE SPECIFICATIONS ON A TRUCK YOU CAN GET FROM 5 ALL THE WAY TO 24.MOST TRUCKS HOWEVER COME W/ 9,OR 10 SPEED.IF YOU GET INTO SPECIALIZED AS IN OIL FIELD YOU WILL SEE 24 WHICH IS USUALLY A 6 SPD W/ A 4 SPD AUXILLARY BEHIND IT.IN THE LAST FEW YEARS MORE AND MORE COMPANIES ARE SPEC'ING AUTO SHIFT TRANSMISSIONS,NO CLUTCH JUST LIKE AN AUTOMATIC IN A CAR THESE TOO COME IN 10,13, AND 18 SPD.
