Hells no.. Register away! Carrie on Sex and the City got tired of all her friends doing it so she had a "I'm single and loving it party" and made her friend buy her a new pair of shoes.

This is just like a Sex and the City episode. It is pretty unconventional to register yourself for gifts in these circumstances. It's up to you but I know I would not feel comfortable doing so. Instead, I'd have the party and would hope people brought me gifts!

It's a little presumptuous but it could work. However normal housewarming parties usually involve bringing a housewarming gift to the person with the new home. Is it because you don't want to accept what others will choose or is it because you want presents that you are thinking of registering? I personally don't like gift registries. I may ask someone what they need or wold like but I want to give them something of myself, too. I usually come up with something they hadn't thought of and really love anyway.

Sure, why not? Go ahead and register so if someone wants to buy you a gift they know what to get you. Just don't put it in the invites. Let them call you and ask.
