I believe that there is a change in the air just before a storm. It has something to do with the electric charge of the ions in the atmosphere. I don't know if that has anything to do with how you feel before a storm, but it is possible.

On the surface it tells me that your dread of the storm is worse than the storm itself. What Idne said is most likely true itself, but exacerbated by the sense of dread over something that is really not going to be so bad. Relief is a natural response to facing our worse fears and surviving.
