Why is the Edsel considered the biggest "lemon" of all-time?

    Because the enormous resources and hype invested in it by the Ford Motor Company made it a very high profile failure and a huge embarassment for Ford. It was actually modestly successful during its short life by some standards. The car itself did have some quality control problems, but they don't seem to be what ultimately doomed it. It seems to be more a matter of terribly clumsy planning and marketing.

    Ford tried to make the Edsel almost all electronic. The problem was the technology just wasn't there yet. It had the push button transmission that was not mechanical, it had electric solinoids in the transmission to help with the shifting, but the parts could not hold up to everyday driving. A lot of the things that were tried is used in the cars of today.
