No, I think they should all be illegal. Right to bear arms meant that all citizens could get a gun and defend their homestead in times of war on home turf. But...hu-loh!

Yes, they should be easier for the law abiding citizen to purchase. Simplest reason being that any psychopath or any criminal for that matter is able to obtain a firearm whether legally or not. If someone is going to rob a liquor store for example, they're not going to care about whether the weapon was obtained legally since they are committing a crime anyway.

It amazes me that we spend so much money on guns, and so little on facilities for the putative homicidal psycopath!! I often wonder who is more crazy - 'them' or 'us'! :O

The problem with making them easier to purchase is that it circumvents the time necessary for a background check, which includes serious mental illness. If someone legitimately only wants it for self-protection, they should appreciate the effort made to slow down the criminals. It's not always enough, but insufficient is far better than non-existent.
