Question

Help answer this question below.

I am thinking about applying for a patent. But I don't know if my invention would be eligible for one. It isn't something new. You would recognize what it is but I have found a very different use for it. Should a pursue it?

I've known two people that tried to get patents. One was for a very useful new item and one was for a method for doing something. Both worked at it for years. It was expensive and both gave up. It was frustrating and time consuming. If you are ready for the work and the long time it might take, go for it. But tell no one of your ideas, show NO ONE.

Does your "very different use" involve modifications to the device as currently exists? or simply a new method of deployment?

You can improve on an existing invention from previous. You have to put up alot of money at a company that does this and you have to go to alot of shows to sell your product or get a company to buy your patent. It's up to your dream if you want to pursue it.
