The CD brand or the type of the CD you are using may not be supported by your CD/DVD burner, check its user manual or the website for the brand of your CD/DVD burner for troubleshooting tips, FAQs, forum. OR Try downloading and updating the firmware of your drive.

Glad you asked this question, I was having the same problem. I have some lightscribe CD - R disks that burn just fine on my laptop, but when I tried to use my PC it kept saying that there was no disk inserted. However, when I put in a CD-RW disk it recognised the disk and worked just fine. What kind of disks are you using? Maybe you could try a different kind. I will be watching with interest to see if anybody really knows what's going on!

It could be a damaged or partly burned CD. Try another new one. If that doesn't work, it could be your drive. Use a lens cleaner and see if it makes a difference. Otherwise, you might need to repair the drive.

Also make sure that your burning software is pointing to the right drive, some of them can point to virtual devices and you may be getting some unrelated error, open 'my computer' and make sure of the letter of the drive and Always state your OS when you ask a question!

Maybe the lens needs cleaning or the disc is scratched.

Another common mistake in addition to Dragons is the drivers for that CD burner. there could be an update out there that your equipment needs....hope that helps...

Maybe your cdrom is defective or it could be your cd itself.

I had this same problem. I found that when I used a RW disk, I had no problem. I also found that if I shut down and reboot, I could write one disk after which I got the same message when attempting to write additional disks. Again, I would shut down and reboot and it worked. I just use RW's now and I don't have the problem.

Make sure the disc you are inserting is of the right type? It's pointless putting in an 8x disc in a 4x rom.

    Here's what you can do:
Check your cd if its already been used, if so try to put a blank cd and if it's still not working, check you burner if it is properly connected and properly installed. Check the software it might be corrupted, if its corrupted try re-installing a new one. Then after checking all of this, restart your computer and try to burn again. Another thing, make sure the blank cd is compatible to the source cd you're trying to burn. If it's a dvd then put a bland dvd cd. Ok. Good Luck. ;)

Go and clean with the lens Cleaner before you do check with the other Cd's if it is working or not. If it does not read all cd's then check with the Lens cleaner if the problem is not solved then surely the drive may be in problem.

try another disc, if not, turn pc off and let your drive rest five minutes.
If no luck, buy a new drive like I just had to do myself...

there is a few things, first of all, the cd to burn needs to be cd-rw, second of all you must have a cd burner in your comp., if not there are external ones that are available for purchase. just make sure you have a burner and cd-rw

    Step 2>
    Go on device manager..
    Click on start>control pannel>device manager.
Check the CD rom device status..

    Step 3>
Rght. click on the CD rom drive and choose uninstall and restart the omp. this process will re=install the driver of the C rom drive..

    CHECK THE FUNCTIONALITY..
IF THE SAME ISSUE IS THERE TRY THIS..

    Step 4>
    Remove upper and lower filters.
1.Type "Regedit" in a RUN option.Hit enter after that.

2.click the plus signs [+] in front of the follow keys in the order they are listed:

This happened to me once... I fixed it by:

    *Open My Computer
*Right Click your Burner and go to Properties
    *Tab over to "Recording"
*Make sure the box is checked that reads, "Enable CD Recording on this Drive"

If that box isn't checked, it will act as if there is no disc in the drive.

Your computer needs drivers usually to use a dvd/cd burner. I would check to see if you have the right and recent drivers then see if the cd/dvd is already burnt.
