The producers of the show look for people that express their emotions well and spontaneously. Anyone can be in the audience, but if the camera's on you and you're told that you just won a brand new car and you either don't respond or start asking questions like is it an auto and does it come with air conditioning, someone gets fired after the show.
I think that more than one show is recorded, and if this is so, spotters would be looking over the audience looking for people sitting on the edge's of their seats and shouting out "higher, or lower." I have seen people go quiet, but here in Australia "Larry" can keep the show in its edge. How likely are you to be picked, if you like going abit overboard with the "wows" and jumping around, I would say you're chances are better than 50%
