A good rule of thumb is that you should expect to spend three or four hours a day interacting with a pet parrot. A healthy parrot can be very demanding of your time, much like a child can be. Your bird is most likely demanding more of your time and more from you than you are giving it right now. How to prevent it? Spend more quality time with it on a regular basis. Just like children, parrots prefer consistency in their lives. If it is alone most of the time, for example if you are away at work all day, out in the evenings, and busy on weekends, it will become lonely and demanding.
