Typically the romance languages (spanish, french, italian, etc.) would be the easiest to learn because they have a similar structure and the same alphabet, although the letters may represent different sounds. Languages such as Russian or Mandarin Chinese may be harder to learn because of the different characters.

I'd say spanish or french...alot of the word bases are the same as words in the english language.

Italian or any of the latin based languages as they have similiar words.

German. I took French up through AP level, and I took German for a year, and it was so easy to learn. It's alot like English, and it has an easy accent. It's also structured very much the same, or easier.

If you only want to speak it, I would say German. It shares many of the same words, and even without knowing anything of the language, you can pick up words here and there. I don't speak it, but have been in contact with many German speakers and can make out the general idea of what they are saying.

Definitely French and Spanish.

I've heard that Frisian, which is a Dutch dialect spoken mostly in northern Holland, is almost identical to English as it existed in its earliest form. I'm not that familiar with Frisian but perhaps it would be easy to learn.

WEll since you don't ask what "additional" language is considered easiest I would have to say English! But I found German a lot easier than French when I started learning foreign languages.

English is a Germanic language, along with German and Dutch. I am in the process of learning Dutch, and it is coming along quite easily for me. I would say Dutch instead of German first, because German has way more articles than Dutch or English... in English you can say "the" for every noun... in Dutch there are two options, "de" and "het" depending on the gender of the noun (which rarely fits male or female descriptions)... and in German I have heard there are 16 different ways to say "the". So choose Dutch! :)

I think all the German based languages are easiest (my first language isn't English, so this is just an assumption). That includes German Dutch Danish Swedish Norwegian and probably some other I've forgot about Danish, Swedish and Norwegian are all very similar, so if you can speak one it wouldn't be much of a problem to learn the two others, but they're all very different from English in some ways, so German is probably the easiest

The best language to learn is the one that you have a practical use for. Otherwise, all that learning goes to waste.
